Despite the fact that most of these kids are not wearing helmets, this video smartly captures the spirit of why we are so driven to build pumptracks in this great city! View Video Here

Philadelphia’s First Pumptrack Gets Community Approval!!!!!

Councilman Curtis Jones and Community Groups give final approval for Philly's first Pumptrack!

On Monday, January 9, 2012, Councilman Curtis Jones, his Deputy Chief of Staff Morgan Cephas and Lucinda Hudson, Executive Director of Parkside Development Corporation and Parkside Community Association, met with representatives from PhillyPumptrack and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation to discuss the development of a pumptrack at Parkside-Evans Playground, 53rd Street and Parkside Avenue.  PhillyPumptrack reps Harlan Price, Kenn Rymdeko, and Heidi Grunwald showed a short video presentation and explained the look and use of a pumptrack along with identifying the many benefits and opportunities a pumptrack brings to a community.  Following the presentations and a round of discussion among the group, Councilman Jones stated, “I like this project; if she (pointing to Ms. Lucinda) and the community likes it, then I approve”.  On the following Thursday, January 12th, the Parkside Community Groups, under the leadership of Ms. Lucinda, listened to a joint Parks & Recreation and PhillyPumptrack presentation about the proposed pumptrack.  After numerous questions and an internal discussion, the group voted to add a pumptrack to their community.  Thanks to the vision and support of  Councilman Jones and the Parkside community, Philadelphia's very first pumptrack will be in the Councilman's district which already includes much of the parkland and trails that the biking community enjoys.

This has been a long journey but we still have quite a way to go before our first ride on the track.  PhillyPumptrack is grateful to Philadelphia Parks & Recreation for their interest and efforts in advancing this project and we look forward to our continued relationship.  We are also thankful to the other groups and individuals who have already pledged their support and we are anxious to start work with them and our broader audience in making this and future pumptracks a reality in Philadelphia.  For the exact location of the Philadelphia's first pumptrack click here.

Central Bucks Bike Club awards $3000 to PhillyPumptrack Project

Central Bucks Bicycle Club has generously awarded PhillyPumptrack $3000 towards the construction of Philly’s first-ever Pumptrack. The award went directly to the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and was ear-marked for PhillyPumptrack. We are so thankful and are further motivated by adding Central Bucks Bike Club to our list of sponsors in this effort. The commitment to provide cycling opportunities for urban youth is at the core of this project. We encourage all cyclists, new and old to join us in the build phase, to be announced in early Spring.
